The Challenges We Address
Dementia:
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that someone in the world develops dementia every 3 seconds. Currently, over 55 million people globally are living with dementia, a number expected to rise to 152 million by 2050.
Health Disparities & Social Isolation
African Americans are twice as likely as non-Hispanic whites to develop dementia, and Hispanic populations face a 1.5 times higher risk.
According to the U.S. Surgeon General, social isolation carries a health risk equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, significantly increasing the likelihood of heart disease, stroke, and dementia.
Underserved Communities
Many communities face difficulties in accessing essential resources and support for brain health initiatives, requiring focused and collaborative solutions.
Our Story
Resilient Health Communities, Inc. (RHC) began as a deeply personal journey for one of its founders, who was searching for resources to support family members as they navigated the challenges of dementia and cognitive impairment. Determined to make a difference, she discovered simple brain health tools that showed promise in improving cognitive resilience and enhancing quality of life.
The positive response from those introduced to these tools was immediate and encouraging. Inspired by their feedback, the founders launched a 12-week online program to reach more people. They inspired another group to begin its own online program. At the request of a local organization, they also conducted an in-person group, further demonstrating the impact of these resources in fostering connection and brain health.
Recognizing the profound effects of social isolation and dementia—and the life-changing potential of these programs—RHC was established. The organization was created to empower individuals and groups to implement sustainable, localized brain health initiatives, ensuring that communities everywhere have access to the tools they need to thrive.Through partnerships with local organizations, villages, and community leaders, we have expanded our reach while remaining true to our mission of fostering resilience and connection. Guided by our founding principles, we continue to serve as a hub to share simple brain health exercises and empowerment.
